Bernese Oberland
The Bernese Oberland is one of the first stops on many peoples itinerary, as the region is often said to be the place where skiing was born. The area hosts many international winter sport events such as the world cup races and it has over 350km of cross-country trails. The region is easily accessible by train and is home to the Jungfrauloch station โ located at 3,454m above sea. In this area you will also find the longest toboggan run and a suspension bridge that connects to mountain peaks. There is never a dull moment in the Adelboden-Lenk area that is the third largest Swiss ski destination. Home to the Eiger and Wetterhorn mountains, the views in this area are second to none. Challenge yourself to the famous Eiger north face climb or choose from one of the many hiking trails in summer.
Zermatt and the Matterhorn
If you are seeking a close up look at Switzerlandโs most famous mountain – the Matterhorn, then you will likely stumble upon the town of Zermatt. This cute tourist town is located at the foothills of the towering Matterhorn and it has one of the best views of the famous mountain. You can visit in summer or winter to take advantage of some of the best hiking or skiing in the country. There are not cars allowed in this town, but you can take a bus from the train station to any part of town and there are cable cars that shuttle people to the hiking trailheads and vantage points.
