A Worldly Education
Germany has excellent schools with internationally renowned standards. Many of the English-speaking expatriates residing in Germany are choosing to educate their children at the international schools located in many of the cities of Germany. These schools provide numerous advantages — firstly, instruction is provided in the native language while exposing students to other foreign languages as well. With the student body being comprised of many international students the schools do a good job of exposing the students to a variety of cultures. The facilities are top-notch as well as the instruction of highly qualified teachers.
The international schools also provide more comprehensive instruction to computing and provide more sports and extracurricular activities similar to those in the United States providing a more familiar experience for students.
The International School Campus
The buildings and facilities are modern, clean and with better equipment more conducive to learning. The curriculum among the international schools is uniform, therefore a much smoother transfer for students moving to another school. The international schools are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and/or the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).
These schools normally offer the International Baccalaureate and may also offer the American high school diploma as well as British A levels and the German Abitur. This is a great addition should the student decide to return to their home country for post-secondary education. The requirement of high school is easily proven without the need for extra forms and testing.
Costs of Education
The costs are dependent upon the school of choice. However, they can sometimes cost the equivalent to the cost of a US college education — this can be as much as €6,000 per high school student per year. Elementary and preschool grade levels may cost 30% to 50% less than high school. Other associated costs can include class trips, transportation, lunches and various special activities not covered by the school tuition.
